General Information
IFALPA and Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) invite participants to a Runway Safety Team (RST) Course. The course is intended for pilot representatives participating in, or intending to join, airport Runway Safety Teams. It is also suitable for Air Traffic Controllers and representatives of CAAs, airports, and airlines.
Runway Safety expert instructor Sven Graßmück will share his experience and knowledge, using case studies and exercises to prepare participants to become active and knowledgeable members of a Runway Safety Team.
The course covers a wide range of topics on runway safety:
- What is a Runway Safety Team (RST)?
- Identifying, prioritizing and mitigating hazards: an overview of ICAO Hazard Identification and Risk Management
- Resources for RST participants
- Elements of safe airport design and operations
- Runway incursion and excursion prevention strategies
- How to effectively participate in an RST
Objective
The objective of the training is to prepare representatives to proactively participate in Runway Safety Teams.
IFALPA Member Associations may also wish to enroll members to become potential RST trainers within their association.
About Instructors
Sven Grassmueck
Sven Grassmueck is an airline pilot with 15 years of experience on short- and long-haul flights. Since 2016, he has dedicated himself to pushing flight safety at regional and international levels.
He is currently the chairman of German ALPA's (Vereinigung Cockpit) Airport Ground Environment Working Group (AGE). He and his team are members of most German Runway Safety Teams, and he has attended hundreds of Safety Team Meetings over the years.
Internationally, he is the vice-chairman of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations (IFALPA) Airport Ground Environment Working Group (AGE). As a vice-chair, he was involved in several ICAO working groups and serves as a facilitator for IFALPA's Runway Safety Team Course.
Among other things, Mr Grassmueck is pushing for training and charting of EMAS installations, Stop bars 24/7, Firemen-to-Flight crew Emergency Frequencies, and Runway Safety Teams.
If he is not engaged in one of the many working groups or flying, he enjoys travelling and gardening with his wife and two kids.
Fees & Cancellations
Course Fee: CAD 450$, includes lunch and coffee breaks.
The cost of personal travel, accommodations, and additional meals are not included and are the responsibility of individual attendees.
