MONTREAL - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chicago Convention, the global aviation industry presented a unified declaration to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) today, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing the safe, secure, and sustainable growth of international aviation. Signed by major industry associations, the declaration represents a collective pledge to support ICAO’s mission and ensure that aviation continues to serve as an integral part of a thriving, connected, inclusive and affordable global transportation system for people and goods.
The Chicago Convention, signed on 7 December 1944, laid the foundational framework for international civil aviation, fostering cooperation among States to promote global connectivity.
IFALPA President, Captain Amornvaj Mansumitchai said: "On behalf of IFALPA, I extend our most sincere congratulations to ICAO on its 80th anniversary. For over seven decades, our collaboration has been a driving force in advancing aviation safety and professionalism. As we look ahead, we are excited to continue working together on key challenges, including social, environmental, and economic sustainability, to ensure a safer and more connected future for all."
The declaration Eighty years of collaboration, progress, and innovation in global aviation highlights that today, air transport connects 5 billion passengers, 33% of global trade by value and 58% of world tourists across 67,300 routes to 4,072 airports on a fleet of 29,000 aircraft.
