The role of the LEG Committee is to provide legal advice to the Federation; responding to requests for legal opinions and the development of positions on legal issues, providing legal support and advice to IFALPA’s representatives at International Organisations, and undertaking specific legal projects, as required by the Executive Board or Conference.
Currently flying the Boeing 737 for WestJet, based in Calgary, F/O Ball started flying commercially in 2002. He paused flying to earn a law degree and practice Aviation Law full time for five years before returning to flying in 2015. James volunteered with the WestJet Encore MEC on the Negotiating Committee and was Chair of the Grievance Committee. He joined the IFAPA Legal Committee in 2020.
John E. (Jay) Wells, J.D., LL.M., has over thirty years’ experience handling aviation, labor, regulatory, administrative, international, employment and business law matters including aviation accident and incident investigation, representation and litigation. He has served as in-house legal counsel to ALPA International since 2000. Prior to joining ALPA, Jay worked in the U.S. Department of Justice Aviation Section and in private practice. He holds commercial pilot and flight instructor licenses.
